The Donkey

The Donkey

The Donkey feels as though he has already traveled a very long road. Quiet and steady beside the manger, he brings to mind the journey to Bethlehem and the humble circumstances surrounding the birth of Christ — an ordinary working animal given a place in an extraordinary story.

Handcrafted and hand-painted by Finch & Timber, the Donkey is filled with understated detail, from his expressive face and long ears to the subtle coloring and texture that give his coat warmth and character. Each is individually painted and finished through many hours of careful handwork.

Among the grandeur of angels and kings, the Donkey offers something different: humility, faithfulness, and the quiet beauty of simply being present.

About This Piece

Craftsmanship & Details

Handcrafted for the Nativity

The Donkey is an original Finch & Timber Nativity figure, individually handcrafted and hand-painted to bring character, warmth, and another element of the humble stable setting to the collection.

Particular attention is given to his expressive face, ears, eyes, coat, and natural markings. Subtle variations of color, highlight, shadow, and texture are developed by hand, creating a figure with personality while allowing him to remain a quiet and harmonious part of the larger Nativity scene.

Creating a figure of this scale requires many hours of patient craftsmanship. Each Donkey is individually painted and finished with the same attention given to the principal figures, ensuring that the entire collection feels cohesive when assembled together.

Because each piece is individually handcrafted and hand-painted, variations in color, brushwork, texture, alignment, and finish are natural and expected. These differences are part of the character of the work, and no two will be precisely identical.
